Ini menarik untuk diikuti, Paul Bradshaw dari Online Journalism Blog sedang menerbitkan sebuah seri yang akan membahas prinsip dasar dari jurnalisme online.

Bradshaw membuatnya dalam seri yang disebut BASIC, setiap huruf melambangkan sebuah konsep. Dan dia memulainya dengan B untuk Brevity.

Update: Bradshaw telah melanjutkan untuk huruf kedua, yaitu A untuk Adaptability.

Update 26 Feb 2008: Tambah lagi untuk huruf S untuk Scannability, artinya sudah ada 3 dari 5 huruf.

Update 16 April 2008: Sekarang sudah sampai huruf keempat, yaitu I untuk Interactivity.

Jurnalisme Sastrawi (literary journalism) atau juga dikenal dengan nama narrative reporting membuka kesempatan pada wartawan untuk berkreasi. Sentuhan warna, nuansa dan karakter ala karya sastra digunakan untuk membuat kisah yang dramatis (tapi tetap merupakan sebuah berita).

Menurut Brian Spadora, dari Poynter.org, Norman Sims (penulis buku True Stories: A Century of Literary Journalism) menyebut bahwa bentuk-bentuk awal dari jurnalisme sastrawi itu memiliki kemiripan dengan bentuk narasi yang sekarang akrab di kalangan jurnalis: apalagi kalau bukan blog.

Tantangan saat ini, terutama di media online, ‘memaksa’ jurnalis untuk bisa segala hal. Mulai dari tugas jurnalisme dasar (reporting, writing) sampai fotografi dan videografi.

Nah, Bas Broekhuizen, editor Volkskrant TV di Belanda mengatakan ini:

“In my opinion every journalist can learn to be a video journalist, as long as he or she is not afraid of the technical aspects (camera, computer, et cetera). Journalism is about telling good stories and in that regard there’s no difference between writing and filming.
